The Mid Winter Warm Up with Chilies

It’s cold outside and perhaps you are looking for a little something to spice up the diet food delivered to your door.  Consider the chili pepper.  This small guy can liven up any dish in a variety of ways .  The chili pepper also has some surprising health benefits for something so small in stature.

chili pepperFor starters, they are rich sources of potassium, magnesium, and iron.  These minerals are a crucial part of a daily balanced diet.  Chili Peppers are also a fantastic vitamin repository.  Vitamins B, C, and Carotene (or pro-vitamin A) can all be found in red chili peppers.  Both green and red chilies also contain capsaicin, which has been proven to have many positive health effects.  Additionally, Capsaicin has been reported to be effective against some forms of arthritis, and has been rumored to have some effect on diabetes as well as the skin disorder psoriasis.

However, the most noticeable effect perhaps, is the effect on the nasal passage.  Chilies will certainly help clear your sinus passages.  Mix a bit in your next diet food delivery and you will notice how much easier it is too breath ten minutes later.  You might also want to keep a tissue handy during the meal.  The chilli pepper is a diverse and nutritious addition to your weekly meals.

There are many varieties of chili pepper to add to the diet food delivered to you.  Varieties such as jalepeno, cuban, and seranno provide a nice warm heat.  If you are feeling bold go for a habanero.  They have an oil that is much more concentrated. Be careful though.  They have a heat that will sneak up on you.  My scenario was one in which I felt fine for the first five minutes, then I could not seem to drink enough water.  I was quite surprised.

Yet there is one even hotter than that.  If you are going for a week of not being able to eat or speak properly than try the world’s hottest pepper…  the Bhut Jolokia.  This little guy weighs in between 800,000 and 1,000,000 on the scoville scale.  In some countries it has even been considered to be used as a part of their non-lethal law enforcement program because of its power packed punch.  If you eat this guy, you are on your own.

While the Bhut Jolokia would probably be the most aggressive culinary digestive challenge, there are other ways to incorporate chilies into your healthy food delivery that will add zest and flavor to your meal.  Consider infusing olive oil with chili peppers to give it a nice warm flavor, use them in ground hamburger meat for a spicy twist on a traditional meal, or simply dry them out and preserve them for use later.  These are just a few the creative ways to use chili peppers as part of your winter warm up.  As a weekly addition to your diet delivery, you are sure to stay toasty until spring.
